AAA Launching the GoFurther Index

Launching the GoFurther Index

Now more than ever is a time to engage, showcase and celebrate progressive businesses who are pushing through and achieving their aspirations through access to investment, impactful collaborations, and the foresight to inform and respond to the changing world around them.

UMi, CPI and Mawsonia share a commitment to helping open minded businesses go further and in turn make a tangible contribution to the national and global economy. Together they have formed the GoFurther index using the GCV Connect powered by Proseeder platform for startups in the region to apply to join.

These top 100 startups and scale-ups will then be showcased on 28 April at an online conference as well as, such to covid-19 restrictions, the Edinburgh campus of Heriot-Watt University, which was founded in 1821 as the School of Arts of Edinburgh.

Home to 33 universities, six of which rank in the top 20 for research excellence nationally, the UK’s Northern Powerhouse is a hotbed for innovation and entrepreneurship – you can read more in our second quarter issue of Global University Venturing out in April.

Cities such as Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle, are all packed with young, modern, innovative businesses and offer a wealth of opportunities to investors.

If the Northern Powerhouse was a country in its own right, it would be the 10th largest economy in the European Union.

Scotland, with an estimated GDP of $202bn, has always had innovation at its heart of industry, from the telephone and penicillin to the ATM and the colour photograph, Scotland has claim to a lot of great inventions and discoveries over the years. Today, innovation is felt, taught and incorporated across the whole of Scottish life, work and play.

Scotland’s innovative culture in cities such as Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen means that more university spinouts are created there than anywhere else in the UK – including London. Home to 19 universities there is a national commitment to supporting spinouts, for example by motivating their academics, providing access to intellectual property and supporting activities across all sectors – you can read more in our first quarter issue of Global University Venturing now out.

Digital technology has become central to all our lives but the real-world shift from atoms to bits has created the chance for a more circular and efficient economy. The GoFurther index of entrepreneurs transforming the energy, health and information and communication technology industries will showcase the power of now to make the world a better place.
