Laundrapp folds up Zipjet merger

UK-based on-demand laundry and dry-cleaning service Laundrapp and its Germany-based peer Zipjet, both backed by industrial and consumer product manufacturer Henkel, today completed a merger.

The combined company has raised an undisclosed amount of funding following the deal in a round featuring Henkel,  e-commerce holding company Rocket Internet, Hargreave Hale, Toscafund and additional undisclosed investors, TechCrunch reported.

Laundrapp and Zipject both provide mobile apps that allow customers to book online laundry and dry-cleaning services from their homes.

The companies will maintain their separate brands in the short term, though together they will process over 150,000 items of washing per month.

In April 2018, Zipjet raised an undisclosed amount of funding in a series B round backed by home appliance maker BSH Home Appliances Group, Henkel’s corporate venturing arm, Henkel Ventures, and Amsterdam Venture Partners.

Henkel Ventures had previously supplied an investment of undisclosed size to the company in 2017.

The company had not disclosed details of previous funding, but its earlier investors included Henkel, Rocket Internet and Btov Partners, as well as DMG Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of media company Daily Mail & General Trust.

In 2016, Laundrapp increased its overall funding to more than $12m, following a $6.4m funding round backed by undisclosed investors.
