Canada-based digital health insurance startup League raised $25m today in a series A round featuring strategic investments from insurance provider Manulife Financial, financial holding company Power Financial Corporation and financial services firm RBC.
The round was led by Omers Ventures, the investment arm of Ontario government-owned pension fund Omers. BDC IT Venture Fund, operated by the Canadian federal government-owned Business Development Bank of Canada, Infinite Potential Technologies and Real Ventures also participated.
Omers Ventures previously led League’s $4m seed round in 2014 with participation from Infinite Potential Technologies, Foundation Capital and Real Ventures.
League’s platform enables employers to set an amount that employees can use for health benefits, allowing said employees to choose which benefits they would like from thousands of verified, rated and reviewed professionals such as doctors, dentists, nutritionists or life coaches.
League will use the cash and expertise of its strategic backers to expand across the US. The company’s offering is currently available in Toronto, Vancouver and Seattle.
