Matthew Lee has left IDG Ventures Korea, an affiliate of US-based media and data firm International Data Group, to co-found a new entity called Cognitive Investment as managing partner.
Lee had acted as CEO and managing partner of IDG Ventures Korea since 2007, focusing on mobile and social technology developers. The unit, which invests out of a $100m fund, is part of a worldwide IDG corporate venturing network that also spans the US, India, China and Vietnam.
Companies to have received funding from IDG Ventures Korea in that time include mobile semiconductor technology developer XRONet and online game developers SNP Entertainment and Toppig.
Prior to joining IDG, Lee spent almost four years as principal at venture capital and private equity firm HB Investment. He previously served as chief financial officer at digital marketing company 24/7 Media Korea.
