A Swiss-based projection display technology company that was spun off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Tecnology in 2008, has caught the attention of Swisscom Ventures, the venturing unit of Swisscom. Lemoptix has developed projection displays that can be embedded and project images from mobile phones, HUDs and other wearables so that content can be displayed on a nearby surface or projected within the device itself, bypassing the typical limitations of physical displays. Swisscom has invested an undisclosed amount of funding.
No financial details or equity stakes have been disclosed with this funding round, nor has material on existing backing been published at the time of writing.
The company’s revenue model is linked to licensing out its technology to partners and customers, supporting them through the initial development stages, prototyping, in addition to industrialisation and production of new products.
Companies, such as Google Glass are developing solutions and collaborating with industry partners in the area of wearable displays for smart glasses.
