Life360 makes time for Chronos acquisition

Mobile network operator Orange and professional sports organisation Major League Baseball exited US-based mobile data collection company Chronos Mobile Technologies through an acquisition by location services provider Life360 yesterday.

The amount paid by Life360 has not been disclosed, but it paid for Chronos through a combination of cash and stock.

Chronos has produced a range of apps that use smartphone sensors to capture contextual data about their users, linking real-world behaviour with smartphone activity, enabling behavioural trends to be tracked and analysed.

Founded in 2012, Chronos raised an undisclosed amount of seed funding in January 2015, and its investors included Orange, MLB, Atlas Venture, China Growth Capital, Draper Associates, Maven Ventures Growth Lab, Plug and Play Ventures and Social Starts, according to Crunchbase.

Life360 provides a location-based communication service for families. Chronos’ co-founders will join Life360’s location and context team, and the company will continue to offer its standalone apps until its technology is fully integrated into Life360’s product line up.

Alex Haro, co-founder and president of Life360, said: “The Chronos technology allows us to give our users an even deeper level of contextual awareness around their family’s daily activities.

“By showing them where they go most often and how much time is spent on specific activities, we can empower our families with key insights around family behaviour.”
