Lin promoted to Intel’s managing partner

Anthony Lin has been confirmed as the new head of Intel Capital, the corporate venturing unit of chip and data company Intel.

Saf Yeboah-Amankwah, chief strategy officer at Intel, on Thursday confirmed the news Lin had been promoted to managing partner.

Lin, a GCV Powerlist award winner, joined Intel’s merger and acquisitions team in 2008 and stepped up to run Intel Capital on an interim basis after the departure of Wendell Brooks in August 2020.

As set out in his keynote at the GCVI Summit in 2019, Lin has focused Intel Capital’s investments on leading more rounds in more diverse companies.

In 2020, Intel Capital committed $735m in 35 new deals and 45 follow on deals. It was the lead investor in 66% of new venture deals and about a quarter of its new venture investments were in diverse entrepreneurs with 15% of all venture dollars committed to companies led by black entrepreneurs.

Lin said: “Last year was a challenging year across the globe, with the covid-19 pandemic, with political and social unrest and division, and with having to change the way we live, work and come together. But never before have we witnessed the importance of technology innovation at so many levels….

“Diverse and inclusive teams drive strong innovation and robust decision-making. Last summer we published a five-year commitment that 15% of our total new deals will be led by black founders.

“At the end of 2020, 9% of our new venture deals and 15% of our venture dollars committed were in companies led by black founders. We know there is more progress to be made and we will continue to encourage, foster and invest in diverse and inclusive teams.”
