LiveSafe, the US-based developer of a personal safety app for smartphones, has raised $6.5m in series A funding in a round led by media conglomerate IAC.
In addition to IAC’s participation, IAC Chairman Barry Diller will join the board of LiveSafe, which previously secured seed funding in 2013 from CIT GAP Funds, an investment fund backed by the company’s home state of Virginia, where the app is currently in use at the Virginia Commonwealth University.
LiveSafe’s app is a two-way communication platform that allows users to report crimes to a cloud-based command centre as well as location tracking for emergency situations. The funding will allow the company to continue expanding into more universities, high schools and sports arenas.
