NYSE-listed technology company LSI Corporation has joined the latest $21m round backing US ethernet connection company Aquantia.
LSI Corporation, which has a market capitalisation of more than $4.5bn and produces silicon, software and systems, joined the series E funding round.
All existing Aquantia investors, including venture capital firms New Enterprise Associates, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Pinnacle Ventures and Venture Tech Alliance, also took part in the round. Venture Tech Alliance has a strategic partnership with Asian corporate Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.
Aquantia’s previous Series D funding round raised up to $44m in December 2009.
Silicon Valley-based Aquantia said the round would help the company increase its scale in response to growing demand for its products which are used in cloud computing and large-scale data centres.
Jeff Richardson, executive vice president and chief operating officer of LSI Corporation, said: "As a leading provider of silicon solutions that enable storage and networking applications, we believe that [Aquantia’s] technology will play an important role in the enterprise and that Aquantia is well positioned to further the deployment of solutions in this growing market."
