Madsen heals himself with BDC

Dion Madsen (pictured), co-founder of Physic Ventures, a US-based venture capital firm sponsored by consumer goods companies including Unilever, will join Canada state-backed BDC Venture Capital to lead healthcare investments, according to his profile on LinkedIn first reported by news provider VentureWire.

BDC Venture Capital is investing C$1bn in external venture funds and direct investments in technology, energy/clean technology and health care.

Madsen spent nearly six years as a managing director of Physic Ventures based in San Francisco, after two years in the same role at Unilever Technology Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of Unilever, where his deals had included Textronics, Halosource and Merrimack.

Madsen’s first venture role was raising a $50m life sciences fund managed by Canada-based bank RBC Capital Partners.

His departure from Physic follows the internal move of Phil Giesler from Physic back to Unilever last year.
