Mainport powers up Ampyx

Netherlands-based airborne wind energy company Ampyx Power raised an undisclosed sum in September from the Dutch Greentech Fund and the Mainport Innovation Fund,  a corporate venturing fund which invests on behalf of KLM, Rabobank, Schiphol and Delft University of Technology and the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Founded in 2008, Ampyx’s PowerPlane energy system produces electricity at an operating altitude between 300 and 500 meter in which a glider generates clean energy. In the future Ampyxs aims that the energy generated from the PowerPlane will be cheaper than the fossil fuel alternatives.

Mainport invest in technology companies that are developing innovations to make their sector more sustainable and efficient. Mainport focuses on aviation technologies, energy, environment, security, safety, mobility, seamless travel and connectivity. The Dutch Greentech fund invests in Dutch start-ups that focus on making the process from raw material to end product more sustainable.
