Hiren Majmudar, vice-president (VP) at Intel Capital, semiconductor technology producer Intel’s corporate venturing arm, has joined its portfolio company SiFive, a fabless provider of customised semiconductors.
SiFive, which has hired Majmudar as a VP of business development, makes customised semiconductors based on Risc-V semiconductor intellectual property (IP) core. It most recently raised a $50.6m series C round in April last year in which Intel Capital also participated.
Majmudar was initially hired by Intel in 1993 in an engineering capacity before he was appointed in 2000 to director of electronic design automation (EDA) support for five years and director of software development tools and technical marketing for a year.
After a one-year spell at EDA software producer Magma Design Automation, Madmudar returned to Intel in 2008 as a director of IP engineering, focusing again on EDA.
Intel Capital eventually drafted him in 2016, where he dedicated his efforts to M&A, equity investments and silicon IP licensing.
Regarding his new post, Majmudar said: “SiFive is leading the disruption of the semiconductor industry with effective implementation of the Open Source Risc-V instruction set architecture, and it is well on its way to democratising access to silicon for the masses.
“I am thrilled to be a part of this revolution, contributing to corporate development and sales strategy for customer expansion.”
