Osman Malik (pictured), an associate at venture capital firm Chysalix Energy Venture Capital, has joined Canada-based oil group Cenovus Energy’s corporate venturing unit.
Mark Blackwell, a fund adviser at Cenovus’s corporate venturing unit, said Malik had joined in January.
On his LinkedIn page, Malik said he was an investment manager for the Oilfield Services Technology Environmental Opportunity Fund at Cenovus Energy.
Cenvous has been investing about $10m per year in corporate venturing and retains some legacy portfolio companies from its split from Encana in 2009. Its portfolio has included General Fusion, Saltworks Technologies, HiFi Engineering, CVT, Seal Well, NxtGen Emission Controls, REM Technology and Atlantic Hydrogen.
Malik had joined Chrysalix in 2010 as an associate focused on providing long-term energy solution analysis and sector-specific investment theses and he said he had led its series A and B rounds in Gan Systems, a local gallium nitride power switching semiconductor company.
He previously worked at oil major BP.
