Manabo, a Japan-based mobile tutoring app developer backed by corporates CyberAgent, Benesse and Zoshinkai, was acquired by preparatory school operator Sundai yesterday, according to The Bridge.
Financial terms have not been disclosed. Sundai purchased Manabo through its IT services unit, Satt.
Founded in 2014, Manabo operates a mobile app that offers access to some 200,000 lectures from more than 3,500 tutors. The company has collaborated primarily with online learning services providers to date but will now integrate its offering with Sundai.
The service will be promoted both inside and outside of Japan following the acquisition. Manabo is also set to develop additional edtech services.
CyberAgent Ventures, the corporate venturing division of media company CyberAgent, provided $375,000 in seed funding, before distance learning service and educational publisher Benesse injected $3.4m in 2014.
Educational publisher and distance learning service Zoshinkai then invested $2.3m in 2016.
