US-based 3D game developer Manticore Games secured $30m on Tuesday in a series B round that included Arrive, entertainment and talent services provider Roc Nation’s investment arm, according to VentureBeat.
The round included venture capital firm Sapphire Ventures’ corporate-backed Sapphire Sport fund, as well as fellow VC firms Benchmark, Correlation Ventures, M Ventures and Tuesday Capital, esports-focused VC fund Bitkraft Esports Ventures and early-stage fund SV Angel.
Although still in stealth mode, Manticore has created a platform called Core which can be used by developers to create 3D games without the requirement for a team, significant expertise or substantial amounts of capital, that can in turn be shared online.
Frederic Descamps, co-founder and chief executive of Manticore Games, said: “Core’s mission is to empower and discover a whole new generation of creators.
“Developing successful multiplayer online games today is extremely arduous and mostly reserved for well-resourced teams. Core frees creators from those constraints and allows their creativity to thrive with experimentation and collaboration.”
Benchmark had previously led Manticore’s $15m series A round in December 2017, investing together with Bitkraft Esports Ventures, Correlation Ventures, Tuesday Capital (then known as CrunchFund), SV Angel and media brand Macro Ventures, an affiliate of M Ventures.
