Competitor Group, a media and event entertainment company for the lifestyle industry, and The Running Specialty Group, a retailer for runners, have helped MapMyFitness, a US-based health and fitness company, raise $9m as part of wider business partnerships, on June 5.
The two companies were joined by venture firms in the Series B round, which was led by Austin Ventures and Milestone Venture Partners.
Competitor Group is owned by private equity firm Falconhead Capital, and The Running Specialty Group operates e-commerce website run.com and 19 running shops in seven US states.
Scott Dickey, president and chief executive officer at Competitor Group, said: "MapMyFitness’ amazing growth of one of the largest audiences of runners, walkers, cyclists and active people has tremendous synergy with what we’re doing at Competitor with events like the Rock N Roll race series."
Ken Gart, President of The Running Specialty Group, said: "The MapMyFitness team has created one of the most engaging utilities for fitness enthusiasts, one that complements what we’re trying to do with our new website, run.com."
