Mas dresses $35m series C round for Athos

US-based fitness apparel producer Athos closed a $35.5m series C round led by Social Capital yesterday that also included Sri Lanka-based apparel manufacturer Mas Holdings.

Venture capital firms Lightspeed Venture Partners, Felix Capital, DCM and True Ventures, as well as Joe Lacob, managing partner and chairman of basketball team the Golden State Warriors.

Founded in 2012, Athos produces smart training apparel that measures muscle performance, heart rate and acceleration. The data is then sent to a user’s mobile device, allowing it to be used as the basis for setting benchmarks and tracking progress.

Dhananja Jayalath, CEO and co-founder of Athos, said: “Athos’ mission is to help people train more effectively to reach their fitness goals. We do this by bringing together the most relevant fitness data and cutting-edge exercise science to deliver simple, actionable insights that allow you to get the most out of every minute you spend working out.

“Whether you are trying to get stronger, lose weight or just feel healthy, we want to help you get the most out of your time and effort so that it’s easier to reach those goals.”

Athos raised $3.5m in series A funding from Social Capital, then known as Social+Capital Partnership, in 2013 before adding $12.2m from Social Capital, DCM, True Ventures, Joe Lacob and basketball player Jermaine O’Neal in August 2014.
