Matthew Fix, 30.1.1973 – 5.6.2015

Matthew Fix, a former partner at mobile phone network operator Vodafone’s corporate venturing arm Vodafone Ventures, passed away on June 5 at the age of 42.

Fix worked at Vodafone Ventures for six years from 2006 to 2013, and helped re-start the unit. He was one of the team members in an active Vodafone Ventures team, which was in the top 10 most active mobile corporate venture capital companies during 2010 to 2012, investing in more than 23 companies during that period.

Peter Barry, who was head of Vodafone Ventures when Fix was with the team, said: “He was a smart energetic person with a great sense of humor, a fair but tough negotiator with a great ability to pick winning ideas and companies. He will be sorely missed by those who knew him well and is a great loss to the venture capital community.”

He was involved in a range of successful exits, including Mobile Iron which exited by public IPO, advertising technology platform Amobee, purchased by telecom company SingTel; payments service PlaySpan, acquired by payments processing service Visa; Snapin, acquired by voice recognition technology company Nuance, and local review site Qype, bought by review site Yelp.
