Maybank to admit 20 to fintech bootcamp

Malaysia-based financial institution Maybank and technology accelerator 1337 Ventures have partnered for a financial technology bootcamp that will support 20 startups, Tech in Asia reported earlier today.

The two partners will organise roadshows in Manila, Jakarta, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, though startups can also apply online with a one-minute pitch video. The selected startups will not receive any funding, but will undergo a three-day programme to validate their business ideas in Kuala Lumpur in June 2015.

At the end of the bootcamp, the startups will be able to pitch their businesses to Maybank executives and venture capitalists at a demo day, and Maybank will select the best startups for onboarding and piloting. The startups will also gain access to Maybank’s 22 million clients.

Maybank is primarily looking for startups that may help it improve its business and operating model, distribution channels, digital and mobile, responsible banking, payments services, direct and indirect sales, and operational excellence.
