Better, the US-based developer of an app that helps users manage their health, has launched with a $5m investment from medical practice Mayo Clinic and Social+Capital Partnership, the venture capital group for which Better co-founder Chamath Palihapitiya is managing partner.
The company operates a free service that provides health tools and tailored information from Mayo Clinic. A premium membership, which costs $49.99 per month, pairs the user and their family with a Better personal health assistant, a trained healthcare professional who can interact with them personally.
News of Mayo Clinic’s involvement marks the non-profit company’s latest foray into corporate venturing. It recently launched a $16m partnership with Enterprise Ireland to commercialise its research, and has invested in funds raised by Qiming Venture Partners and Novartis this month.
