Mech Mocha joins Flipkart’s party

E-commerce marketplace Flipkart has paid an undisclosed sum to acquire India-based mobile game developer and portfolio company Mech Mocha, it announced yesterday.

Mech Mocha markets 10 multiplayer mobile games including a digital version of cricket. Players compete in each game to reach a high-score leaderboard and can upload a profile picture to show other users what they look like.

Flipkart will take control of Mech Mocha’s assets and absorb its development team as it looks to strengthen its own gaming offering. It was seeking $10m of series B funding in late 2018 according to media reports, though it never confirmed a close of the round.

Accel and Shunwei Capital co-led a $5m series A round for the company in 2017 that also featured fellow venture capital firm Blume Ventures, after a $1m seed round in 2015 backed by Flipkart and Blume Ventures. Its earlier backers include angel investors Sanjay Mehta, Ravi Trivedi and Devendra Parulekar.
