US-based mobile messaging app Frankly has raised $12.8m in funding in a round which featured SK Planet, a corporate venturing subsidiary of telecommunications service provider SK Telecom.
Merchant banking fund JJR Private Capital and Stanford-StartX Fund, a fund setup to invest in Stanford University start-ups, also participated in the round.
Frankly is a private mobile-messaging service which has more than 1.7 million users. It has also announced the launch of its SDK business, which will focus on bringing a customisable version of its robust, high performance messaging technology to other app developers through a simple software development kit.
Steve Chung, chief executive of Frankly, said: ‘Messaging is the backbone of mobile conversations and we’re incredibly excited about our traction, especially from the Generation Z demographic. We look forward to not only growing Frankly globally, but also to bringing a powerful social module to other app developers through our new chat SDK initiative’.
Frankly previously raised $6m from SK Planet in September 2013.
