Monster goes wild on Green Mountain

Green Mountain Digital, a US-based maker of wildlife and nature apps, has raised $3.8m in series B funding led by Monster Worldwide, the owner and operator of employment website Monster.com, and the Vermont Seed Capital Fund, an evergreen equity fund capitalized by the State of Vermont and US Senator Patrick Leahy, along with angel investors.

The funding will primarily support the scaling of recently launched Yonder, a free photo/video sharing app focused on outdoor recreation, as well as continued investment in the company’s nature-oriented NatureShare platform.

Previously, Green Mountain Digital raised $1.5m in series A funding in July 2012, from Vermont Seed Capital Fund, and $1.48m in September 2010, again from Vermont Seed Capital Fund.

Sal Iannuzzi, Monster Worldwide chairman, president and CEO, said: “Green Mountain Digital is successfully capitalizing on the great opportunity today’s social and mobile app marketplace represents and this is a sound and strategic investment for Monster.  Beyond the solid financials, we continuously look to explore the latest technological developments for our business and I expect Monster and Green Mountain Digital will be able to learn much together as the mobile and social revolution accelerates.”

David Roberts, chief executive officer (CEO) of Green Mountain Digital, said: “Our mobile first approach and deep focus on the outdoors has led us to Yonder.  Through Yonder, users can record and share their experiences via photos and videos, thereby inspiring others to engage in the best that the outdoors has to offer.”
