Motorola tracks Eyefluence for $14m

US-based eye-interaction technology developer Eyefluence secured $14m on Wednesday in a series B round led by Motorola Solutions Venture Capital, Motorola’s corporate venturing arm.

Motorola was joined in the round by venture capital firms Dolby Family Ventures and Jazz Venture Partners, investment firm NHN Investment, undisclosed strategic and private investors, and follow-on investments from its series A investors.

Eyefluence has not disclosed information about its series A funding, apart from the fact it was led by Intel’s corporate venturing unit, Intel Capital, which participated as part of a $62m investment in a total of 16 companies in November 2014.

The company’s technology combines augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality devices into a platform that enables users to perform tasks on smart glasses through looking, in the same way as they do with their fingers on smartphones.

Motorola will work to integrate Eyefluence’s eye-interaction technology into its own smart public safety products. The technology is also being developed with an eye to the healthcare, oil and gas, financial services, entertainment, assistive technology and defence industries.

Jim Marggraff, founder and CEO of Eyefluence, said: “By combining biology and technology with a deep understanding of the eye-brain connection, Eyefluence enables a radically new form of human-computer interaction that is natural and intuitive and will allow consumers and enterprises to realise the full potential of head mounted display technology.”
