Hearst Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of US media company Hearst, has named Gabby Munoz as managing director.

Formed in 1995, Hearst Ventures invests in strategic areas including media and IT. Notably, one of its first investments was in web browser Netscape shortly after the unit was launched.

Hearst Ventures, which has offices in New York, London, Beijing and Tel-Aviv, has invested more than $1bn in companies including entertainment news portal BuzzFeed, streaming service Roku and social media management platform HootSuite.

Munoz has been with Hearst for more than a decade, having started as vice president of finance and mergers and acquisitions in 2012. She took up finance, strategy and operations positions before joining Hearst Ventures as managing director in 2019.

In November 2022, Munoz was appointed senior vice president of M&A, strategic investments and strategy at Hearst E-Commerce, a subsidiary focusing on ecommerce for Hearst’s consumer media portfolio.
