National Grid nets two new portfolio companies

National Grid Partners (NGP), the corporate venturing arm of UK-headquartered energy transmission service provider National Grid, participated in funding rounds for US-based, cybersecurity-focused companies 1touch.io and RiskIQ totalling $29m today.

RiskIQ, a developer of cybersecurity risk management software, raised $15m in a series D round featuring NGP and insurer Massachusetts Mutual’s investment vehicle, MassMutual Ventures, as well as Georgian Partners, Summit Partners and Battery Ventures.

The company has built an attack surface management platform that helps users protect infrastructure from threats outside their security firewall, and NGP intends to provide expertise and assistance in the infrastructure, utility and manufacturing markets.

The round boosted RiskIQ’s overall funding to $83m and came after a $30.5m series C round in 2016 that was led by Georgian Partners and backed by MassMutual Ventures, Summit Partners and Battery Ventures.

Florence Venture Partners is also a RiskIQ investor, having joined MassMutual Ventures, Battery Ventures and existing investor Summit Partners in a $27.5m series B round closed in 2014.

NGP also joined venture capital firm Jerusalem Ventures Partners (JVP) in a $14m series A round for 1touch, the developer of a software platform that enables the use of personal data to be tracked and mapped within an organisation.

JVP had already participated in a round of undisclosed size for 1touch in November 2018 that was led by Connecticut Innovations. The rounds took NGO’s total investment to $154m in under two years, and its portfolio now stands at 19 companies.

Lisa Lambert, founder and president of NGP, said “Identifying next-generation security measures and supporting their development and adoption are key to one of National Grid’s core commitments: Delivering a safer, more seamless energy future to our millions of customers.”

“The founders of these companies are pioneers of security and online commerce, with nearly 100 years combined experience. We are proud to add them to our team and excited to help them reach the next stage in their growth.”
