US-based healthcare software provider Health Gorilla secured $15m yesterday in a series B round co-led by insurance firm Nationwide’s corporate venturing unit, Nationwide Ventures, with venture capital firm IA Capital.
The round included Aflac Corporate Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of supplemental insurance provider Aflac, and Epsilon Health Investors, which represents health systems Guthrie, Hartford HealthCare, HonorHealth, Northern Light Health and Woman’s Hospital.
Existing investors including VC firm True Ventures filled out the round, which followed $2.4m in 2015 and $8.2m in series A funding three years later. The investors in both rounds were not disclosed.
Health Gorilla helps users access clinical data through digital health apps such as Virta Health, Heal, K Health and DrChrono in addition to state government organisations and health systems.
Erik Ross, head of Nationwide Ventures, said: “Being able to access health data quickly and efficiently is a game-changer for underwriting life insurance products. We believe their technology can drastically change underwriting processes that have previously taken weeks.”
