Netlify catches Bloomberg for $12m series A

Bloomberg Beta, the data-focused investment arm of media company Bloomberg, participated in a $12m series A round for web development automation startup Netlify yesterday.

Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz also took part in the round along with VC fund Tank Hill Ventures and Designer Fund, a seed-stage fund that targets startups founded by designers. Peter Levine from Andreessen Horowitz will join Netlify’s board of directors.

Netlify has created tools that automate the building and deploying part of web project development, making the entire process quicker. It has been used for more than 350,000 websites.

Matt Biilmann and Chris Bach, Netlify’s founders, said in a blog post the funding will support the expansion of its collaboration tools and infrastructure and an increased commitment to the modern web ecosystem and various open source projects.

Bloomberg Beta had previously joined Designer Fund, Tank Hill Ventures and angel investors such as Ohad Eder-Pressman, Adam Wiggins, Tom Preston-Werner and Todd Morey to provide $2.1m of seed funding for Netlify in August 2016.
