US-based identity authentication technology company Nok Nok Labs has secured $8m in a series D round led by Motorola Solutions Venture Capital, the strategic investment arm of communications equipment manufacturer Motorola Solutions.
Computing and mobile device manufacturer Lenovo Group also took part in the round, as did authentication technology providers Korea Information Certificate Authority and DDS, and Docomo Innovations, an investment subsidiry of mobile communications technology producer NTT Docomo.
The round was filled out by venture capital firms Onset Ventures and DCM Ventures, and it increased Nok Nok’s overall funding to approximately $56m.
Founded in 2013, Nok Nok uses biometrics to confirm a user’s identity through fingerprint, voice, face or retina recognition on mobile devices and computers.
The company will use the funding to push into new markets such as government and emergency services, and public security.
Lenovo had joined DCM and Onset Ventures for Nok Nok’s $16.5m series B round in 2014. The three returned for a $16.3m series C the following year, investing alongside NTT Docomo unit Docomo Capital, conglomerate DaouKiwoom, mobile tool developer Thundersoft and VC firm Raven Ventures.
