Omnidrone, a Spain-based mobile gaming company, has raised its first institutional funding round of $2m from Nokia Growth Partners (NGP), the corporate venture investment firm affiliated to Nokia and focused on mobile technologies, seed fund London Venture Partners (LVP), and Madrid-based venture capital fund Kibo Ventures.
The round was completed in February 2014 and will enable Omnidrone to grow its team and prepare for the launch of its first title, described as a “free-to-play mid-core social game optimized for tablets and mobile.”
Gerard Fernandez, Omnidrone CEO, said: “NGP and London Venture Partners can bring much value through their deep mobile and game expertise as well as investment experience from having invested in other leading gaming companies previously. Also NGP’s global presence and Kibo Ventures’ footprint in the Spanish market are important for us to grow our company to the next level”
NGP has previously backed Finnish game developer Grand Cru.
Walter Masalin of NGP said: “Gerard and his team built their first mobile games already in the early 2000’s and pioneered free-to-play games on Facebook. They have all the skills needed to build a portfolio of top-tier mobile games. Games dominate the time spent on mobile and we believe the strong industry momentum will continue”
Kibo Ventures partner Javier Torremocha said: “Many successful games have been produced in and around Barcelona and Omnidrone’s team is the very elite of Barcelona’s game scene.”
Omnidrone was founded in August 2013 by a team of ex-Digital Chocolate employees in Barcelona.
