Nokia makes Motally good deal

Finland-based mobile phone maker Nokia has agreed to acquire Motally, a US-based mobile analysis company, from its former corporate venture subsidiary BlueRun Ventures.

Nokia spun BlueRun (then known as Nokia Venture Partners) off in 2005, three years before Motally was founded in 2008, but remains a limited partner in the venture capital firm’s funds.

Motally had raised $750,000 from BlueRun Ventures, which has put John Malloy and Jonathan Ebinger on the portfolio company’s board, and angel investor Ron Conway since its launch, according to news provider Techcrunch.

Nokia said after its acquisition, Motally’s service would be adapted for Qt, Symbian, Meego and Java developers.

Marco Argenti, vice president of media at Nokia, said: "The acquisition underpins Nokia’s drive to deliver in-application and mobile web browsing analytics to Ovi’s growing, global eco-system of developers and publishers, enabling partners to better connect with their customers and optimize and monetize their offering."
