Northgate has clear view of Aoptix

Aoptix Technologies, a US-based equipment company, has raised a $42m series E round from a consortium including venture capital firm Northgate Capital, which is majority funded by India-based industrial conglomerate Religare Enterprises.

Alongside Northgate in the E round, were venture capital firms True Ventures, Clearstone Venture Partners, DAG Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and W Capital Partners.

Aoptix said it had in total raised $123m in total for its adaptive optics technologies that initially helped astronomers see farther into space before being applied by the US military to develop mobile wireless networks for high speed air-to-ground and air-to-air communications after receiving $11.4m in grants last year.

Founded in 2000, Aoptix’s previous round in March 2009 raised $12.9m from a consortium also including investment bank Lehman Brothers before its bankruptcy.
