Olapic curates Unilever for $15m series B

Olapic, the US-based creator of a visual marketing content engine, completed a $15m series B round yesterday that featured Unilever Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of consumer goods manufacturer Unilever.

The round was led by venture capital firm Felix Capital and also included backing from Fung Capital, Longworth Venture Partners, Michael Lazerow, Fabrice Grinda and Jose Marin Investments.

Olapic’s engine collects photos and videos from social media sites and enables customers to curate and showcase them for marketing and e-commerce purposes. The cash will fund expansion in Asia and Europe, as well as product development.

The company previously raised $5m in a 2013 series A round co-led by Fung Capital and Longworth that was also backed by Great Oaks Venture Capital and Scout Ventures.

Great Oaks also participated in a $1m seed round in 2012 alongside menswear e-commerce company Bonobos, sunglasses retailer Warby Parker, Brad Harrison Ventures and the Columbia University-backed Lang Fund.

Pau Sabria, chief executive of Olapic, said: “This round of funding validates the rapid growth in the visual marketing category and the critical need brands have for more content.

“Today’s consumer is speaking a new, visual language that values authenticity and expects fresh, original creative to be ready for consumption at the speed of social.”
