OnCorps, an analytic and user-controlled social networking platform, which secured backing from venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz last year, has helped SkySQL, a Finland-based support and services company for data base MySQL’s products, raise $4m.
OnCorps was joined in the series A round by state investment company Finnish Industry Investment and venture firms Spintop Ventures and Open Ocean Capital.
SkySQL said it would primarily use the investment to fund growth in its product development. SkySQL was started in October 2010 and has been funded with seed money from OnCorps, as well as Open Ocean Capital. It is operating in 13 countries.
Bob Suh, chief executive and founder of OnCorps, said: "We are a somewhat unique company that is essentially a community of technology veterans including CIOs [chief information officers] and CTOs [chief technology officers]. Our goal is to, first, enable peer expert support for discovering disruptive technologies and, second, provide individuals the benefits the tech industry usually only affords to a lucky few."
Suh added: "One of the things our community members asked for was an opportunity to participate in interesting new technology companies. We therefore run an angel fund for our community."
