Keiichi Onishi has been promoted to CEO and managing director at Japan-based industrials conglomerate Yamaha’s corporate venturing unit.
He was promoted to head Yamaha Motor Ventures & Laboratory Silicon Valley, in California, following Jim Aota’s move to chairman in January after nearly two years as CEO.
Aota also now leads the role of new business development in Yamaha Motor’s headquarters based in Iwata, Japan.
Onishi was previously developing and implementing the company-wide digital transformation strategy and said its focus was increasingly on sustainability and working to help the company develop new businesses.
Yamaha’s most recent deal was as part of the $28m series A round in factory automation unit Rios and it is starting a medical devices challenge.
