OpenPeak, a US-based communications equipment maker previously backed by Intel Capital, has raised $27.9m of a planned $30m round.
In a regulatory filing first seen by news provider Citybizlist, seven investors have provided the money and the company has directors from Castletop Capital, Watermark Medical, Thomson, Ritchie Capital, Blackstone Group and GMG Capital Partners.
In June, Intel Capital, the corporate venturing division of US-listed chip maker Intel, led the fourth round of funding for OpenPeak.
Intel Capital was the only new investor among a number of returning equity providers in US-based OpenPeak’s last round in June, which raised $52m in equity and debt. GE Capital, Horizon Technology Finance and Velocity Financial Group provided the debt portion.
In November 2007, OpenPeak closed its $30m series C round from venture capital firm RRE Ventures and angel investors Tomilson Hill, vice chairman of buyout firm Blackstone Group, and Mort Topfer, former vice chairman of Dell and co-founder of private equity firm Castletop Capital. OpenPeak’s other previous investors include John Sculley, former chief executive of Apple and Pepsi-Cola, and VCs Millennium Technology Ventures and GMG Capital Partners.
Including the series C round, news provider VentureWire said OpenPeak had previously raised nearly $63m across several funding rounds beginning in 2002.
