O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures and Qualcomm Ventures have funded the $1.3m seed funding. OpenSignal crowd-sources signal information to create online maps which shows users reliable areas of signal for their mobile network.
The US-based corporate venturing fund of publishing company O’Reilly Media and the US based corporate venturing unit of technology group Qualcomm were joined by venture firm Passion Capital in the round.
The funds will be used to further develop and continue to build mobile phone coverage maps. OpenSignal also announced the release of the first version of its API. Since its creation in 2010, over 2 million people have used the OpenSignal android app across 200 countries.
