Bitzer Mobile, a US-based mobile applications management software company backed by investors including Chevron Technology Ventures, the corporate venturing unit belonging to energy conglomerate Chevron, has been acquired by US-based technology company Oracle.
Bitzer Mobile was co-founded by Ali Ahmed, Naeem Zafar in 2011. In November 2011, it raised $4.8m from investors including Chevron Technology Ventures. The round was led by Acero Capital, and the final series A figure included $1.5m originally secured in July 2011.
Oracle stated the acquisition was designed to address the growing security needs of enterprises created by the bring your own device (BYOD) movement : “Bitzer Mobile augments Oracle’s industry-leading portfolio of Fusion Middleware products, and is expected to be a core component to its mobile security strategy. Together, Oracle and Bitzer Mobile are expected to provide organizations with a comprehensive solution to further manage security of enterprise information held on personal and company-owned mobile devices.”
Bitzer provides a container which, once installed on an employee’s smartphone or tablet, enables them to access corporate content and applications securely from anywhere.
