O’Reilly eyes third fund

O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures (OATV), the corporate venturing unit of O’Reilly Media, is planning to begin marketing its third fund this Autumn with a target of $75m, according to news provider Fortune.

The fund aims higher than previous funds. In 2010, the firm closed its second fund, OATV II, at $59.25m, and raised $51m for its first fund in 2007.

OATV’s portfolio includes web link shortening service Bitly and social media platform Foursquare. Exited deals include travel planner app TripIt for $120m to Concur, DIY community website Instructables, and web-based operating system Parakey which was acquired by social media company Facebook in 2007 for an undisclosed sum and was the first of Facebook’s acquisitions.

The company is a venture unit for O’Reilly Media, a media company specialising in magazines and books.including the“In a Nutshell” and “Cookbook” series of computer code reference books.
