Origene samples $17m in $32m round

Origene Technologies, a US-based human genome research company backed by media and data company International Data Group (IDG), has raised $17m of a $32m equity round, according to a regulatory filing.

Origene oversees a collection of DNA and RNA research samples, as well as human tissues, and protein microarray products and services. It has raised more than $70m in funding since it was founded, according to press releases and regulatory filings.

IDG-Accel, the joint venture between IDG and venture firm Accel Partners, participated in Origene’s $16m series B round in 2010 and $21.3m series C round three years later, the only rounds officially announced by the company.

The series B round included SBI & TH Venture Capital Enterprise, Zero2IPO, Morningside Ventures and President International Development, the latter two having funded Origen’s series A. Qiming Venture Partners and Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers China both took part in the series C round.
