Orion Labs organises $29m series B

Dell Technologies Capital, the corporate venturing subsidiary of computing technology provider Dell, has led a $29m series B round for US-based enterprise communication software developer Orion Labs.

WRVI Capital, Avalon Ventures, Allen and Company, Argentum Capital Partners and Mathers Associates also participated in the round, which increased the company’s funding to more than $62m since it was founded in 2014.

Formerly known as OnBeep Labs, Orion has created a voice-first software platform for workplaces that helps connect an enterprise’s staff to each other in addition to artificial intelligence-equipped automation tools.

Tyler Jewell, managing director for Dell Technologies Capital, said: “Orion is reinventing real-time communication for the billions of deskless workers. Just as Zoom and Slack are collaboration tools for knowledge workers at a desk, Orion is a new standard for deskless and frontline workers.

“Orion’s unique platform combines real-time communication, context and automation, enabling mobile teams to collaborate with each other, use powerful bots and workflows to become more effective, and remain heads-up in any environment. We are excited to support this exceptional team as they transform the global frontline workforce.”

Allen & Company led an $18.3m round for Orion in 2017 featuring communications technology producer Motorola Solutions, Argentum, Avalon Ventures, Thermo Companies, Fuel Capital and individuals including David Recordon and James Lindenbaum.

Motorola Solutions unit Motorola Solutions Venture Capital had joined Avalon Ventures to provide $9m in funding for the company the previous year, following $6.25m in a round backed by Avalon Ventures that closed in 2014.
