Financial services provider Orix has invested $60m in Israel-based equity crowdfunding platform operator OurCrowd as part of a strategic collaboration deal.
OurCrowd runs a venture capital investment platform that allows businesses and individuals to invest in a curated selection of startups across a range of sectors from seed to pre-IPO stage.
The firm’s portfolio includes Lemonade, the online insurance provider with a current market cap of $3.6bn; Klook, the online travel agency that raised $225m in April 2019; and anti-fraud software producer BioCatch, which had secured $168m for its latest round as of September this year.
Japan-headquartered Orix’s investment was made in connection with a partnership that will involve it working with OurCrowd on the joint establishment of financial and investment products and the strengthening of ties between startups in each of their countries.
Kiyoshi Habiro, chief executive of Orix UK, said: “We are excited about investing in OurCrowd, Israel’s most active venture investor and one of the world’s most innovative venture capital platforms.
“We intend to be active partners with OurCrowd and help them accelerate their already impressive growth, while bringing the best of Israeli tech to Japan’s large industrial and financial sectors.”
