US-based mobile services enhancement company Ortiva Wireless secured $2m in funding on 24th October from investors including Comcast Interactive Capital (CIC), the corporate venturing unit of cable, telecom and internet provider Comcast, prior to Comcast’s acquisition of NBC Universal. CIC was absorbed into a new entity, Comcast Ventures, together with NBC’s Peacock Equity, in May.
Venture capital (VC) firms Artiman Ventures and Mission Ventures also participated in the round. Comcast, Artiman and Mission contributed to an Ortiva round which raised $2.5m in June, and $8m in a November 2010 series C round led by corporate venturing unit Intel Capital.
Ortiva designs and develops video optimisation technology usable by mobile operators. The technology allows better quality online streaming on mobile devices regardless of fluctuating network conditions.
Ortiva previously raised $19.3m in September 2009 from Comcast, Artiman, Mission, and VC fund Avalon Ventures, between June 2007 and December 2009.
