Outblaze flames up its first round

Outblaze Ventures Holdings, the parent company of Hong Kong-based mobile games developer Animoca, closed its series A round on November 15th. The amount raised by Outblaze was undisclosed but was reported by Asia-focused technology finance website Penn-Olson as being more than $10m.

Corporate venturing unit Intel Capital and IDG-Accel China, a joint venture partnership between technology, media and investment company the International Data Group (IDG) venture capital firm Accel Partners, were the backers in the round.

Outblaze was one of ten Asia-based companies to receive part of $40m worth of funding provided by Intel Capital in mid-November.

Animoca has released more than 150 applications (apps) for the Apple iOS and Google Android smartphones and tablets since it commenced operations in January, and will use the capital to accelerate growth.

David Kim, chief executive officer of Animoca, said: "The global app market continues to grow, and our goal is to establish the Animoca brand as a major international leader in smartphone games; the investments from Intel Capital and IDG-Accel will be critical to our efforts."
