Palantir locates another $125m

Palantir Technologies, the US-based big data technology producer backed by investors including information and analytics provider RELX, has raised an additional $125m in funding, according to a regulatory filing on Wednesday.

The company’s latest round, which it began raising in July this year, now totals $680m. It reached a $555m second close in October, and Palantir is raising the money at a $20bn valuation.

Palantir provides big data analytics services for government organisations, financial services providers and legal research firms. It has operated in stealth throughout its history, likely due to the sensitive nature of the work conducted by its clients.

The company has now raised more than $1.7bn since it was founded in 2003. Its existing investors include Founders Fund, Tiger Global Management and In-Q-Tel.

RELX, then known as Reed Elsevier, led its $35m series B round in 2009, investing through its Reed Elsevier Ventures subsidiary.
