US-based design service startup Pencil + Pixel has closed an $8m series A round led by Norwest Venture Partners (NVP), the venture capital firm managing funds for financial services provider Wells Fargo.
Formed in March 2015, Pencil + Pixel operates Modsy, a service that customers can use to send photographs of a room they want redesigned. Modsy will then send back a 3D rendered version of the room with suggested new furniture and accessories along with a guide to where they can be bought.
The cash will support the recruitment of graphics engineers, 3D artists and designers while Pencil + Pixel looks to expand its retail, real estate and media partners as it prepares to launch the platform, which is still in private beta.
Pencil + Pixel raised $2.75m in spring 2015 from a syndicate including NVP, Metamorphic Ventures and assorted angel investors.
The company has not disclosed the investors in its series A round, but did reveal a list of overall investors that includes GV, the corporate venturing unit formerly known as Google Vemtures, as well as Birchmere Ventures, Susa Ventures, AME Cloud Ventures, BBG Ventures, Astia Angels and Ammunition.
