People Infocom, an India-based mobile content provider backed by Intel Capital, has acquired UK-based application developer Mobango.
Anupam Mittal, chairman and managing director of People, said the acquisition cost "a few million dollars", according to local news provider Mint.
Intel Capital, the corporate venturing division of US-listed chip maker Intel, was part of a consortium, including VCs Westbridge Capital Partners and Sequoia Capital, investing $10m in People in 2006.
People runs Mauj Mobile while Mobango has a database of about 35,000 free mobile applications, which is estimated to be the world’s second largest after Lithuania-based GetJar.
Mobango has raised more than $8m from venture capital firms Innogest Capital and Doughty Hanson Technology Ventures.
