Anthony Philippakis, a fellow of medical genetics at Harvard Medical School, has joined Google Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of the US-based search engine.
Philippakis said: "I joined Google Ventures to help with efforts with the life sciences and big data, many of them related to genomics."
Philippakis is also a fellow in Cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and in Medical Genetics at Harvard Medical School. He has published papers on subjects from pure mathematics to personalised medicine.
He studied Maths at Cambridge and Yale as well as getting a PHD in biophysics from Harvard Medical School.
Philippakis is said to be "passionate about translating the insights from the Human Genome Project into clinical medicine" by Google’s website profile.
