China-based virtual reality headset developer Pimax has closed a series A round sized at almost RMB100m ($15.3m) co-led by optical technology producer O-Film Tech and bearings manufacturer Tianma Bearing, Yivian has reported.
Pimax launched the world’s first 4K VR headset in 2016 and intends to bring an 8K device to market in 2018 that will have a 200-degree field of vision, comparable to that of the human eye.
The company has also created a platform called PiPlay that enables a user to connect and manage all their VR devices in a single place. It is compatible with games and apps available on the Steam game distribution platform.
Pimax has not disclosed any earlier equity funding, but raised $4.2m in crowdfunding from a Kickstarter campaign in November this year.
