Jersey-based law firm Pinel Advocates Group has started a corporate venturing unit.
Pinel Venture Capital will make investments in small to medium-sized businesses.
Andrew Pinel, director of Pinel Venture Capital and one of two partners at Pinel Advocates, said: "We will not invest in businesses competing with our clients. Law firms in Jersey have historically invested in trust companies, fund administration businesses or have sought to provide English legal advice. This gives rise to inherent conflicts of interests and hampers relationships with independent client businesses. Pinel Venture Capital will not be involved in any of these areas now or in the future."
